Aderayo Qadowsh
Aderayo Odebiyi is a soul jazz singer who blends contemporary and classical music to tell her audience the beautiful story of God, life and nature. Born in Lagos, Aderayo spent her younger years experiencing the northern and western culture because of her traveling father whose job took him from city to city. She eventually moved from Gombe to Lagos where she finished her secondary school education. Her musical journey started for her in secondary
school, where she had to lead the school's choir which she did beautifully and even got an award recognising her as ‘’Most Gifted Singer’’ in the school. This quest further led her to join a singing group called Lifestyl in Somolu. With Lifestyl, she explored music and singing more which gave her the sure footing she needed professionally. Her love and passion for music even became much stronger that she gradually ditched her initial desire to study Occupational Therapy in the university which would have pleased her father. She enrolled in a number of singing contests to show her singing prowess and made friends who are now noted industry people along the way.
Aderayo had to enroll for another JAMB exam to choose Music as her course of Study. She successfully got an admission to study Music in University of Lagos and graduated in 2014. Following that, Aderayo won an MTN Scholarship to bag a Diploma in Music in MUSON which she successfully did in 2017 and got an award also as Best Vocalist of her class. As she was studying in both institutions, Aderayo sat for the Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Grades seven and eight (Music Theory and practical) and passed colourfully. Aderayo has also tested her hands on a couple of musical instruments like the piano, trumpet and violin. Till date, she seizes every opportunity at her disposal to sharpen her skill and music knowledge.
Before she enrolled in university, Aderayo also known as Qadowsh has been singing professionally and working as recording artiste and background vocalist with leading singers like Kenny K’ore and Lara George and a number of artistes.
Aderayo has officially released three songs to her credit, one of which is her musical work in MUSON titled Olusomi, a beautiful classical piece in Yoruba. She also organises a yearly worship event tagged ‘’Worship Unleashed’’ which convenes believers to worship in one accord. Aderayo’s quest for creating musical and singing enthusiasm in people has led her to work as voice trainer and music teacher with Vocal Plus Academy and Brand Points Consults where she contributes her knowledge of music. Other expressions of Aderayo’s art are through her hair and makeup artistry, costuming, art direction and the likes. Her avid interest in learning new languages has made her learn French and German at beginning levels.
Aderayo seeks to tour the world doing music with people of varying tribes and languages and composing music that edifies people. She presently resides in Lagos with her great husband and beautiful children.
