About Àkójọpọ̀ Publishing

Àkójọpọ̀ Publishing, powered by the Àkójọpọ̀ Music Foundation, is dedicated to amplifying the voices of composers across Africa and the African diaspora. Our mission is to provide an inclusive, international platform that highlights the richness of African musical traditions through publication, distribution, and performance opportunities. By doing so, we aim to reshape global narratives in music education and performance while fostering meaningful cultural exchange.

Who Can Apply

We invite submissions from composers who:

  • Draws inspiration from African cultural traditions and resonates with global audiences
  • Are of African heritage or currently based on the continent

All compositions must be original, unpublished, and not previously distributed for public performance.

What We’re Looking For

  • Original, unpublished compositions not previously distributed for public performance
  • Educational pieces reflecting African and Afro-diasporic identity
    Orchestral and concert band works from beginner to advanced levels (Use Àkójọpọ̀ Music Submission Grading System)
  • Choral works for educational and community ensembles from beginner to advanced levels (Use Àkójọpọ̀ Music Submission Grading System)
  • Pieces incorporating African instrumentation (with optional alternative scoring)
  • Works no longer than 8 minutes, emphasizing cultural depth and performability
  • Previously unpublished performed compositions that have gained local or regional acclaim
  • Unpublished works with historical or cultural significance

Composition Materials

  • One sample composition (PDF score)
    Audio file (MP3, MP4, or MIDI)
  • Indicate performance level according to the Àkójọpọ̀ Music Submission Grading System

Supporting Documents

  • Résumé (1–2 pages) highlighting your portfolio and relevant experience
  • Cover email including:
    Full name
    Country and affiliation (if applicable)
    Contact details (email and phone number)
