Peter Ọlálékan Adédòkun
Peter Ọlálékan Adédòkun is a prolific master drummer, drums maker, drumming trainer, actor, flautist and a versatile musician. Based in Ibadan, Nigeria, he is known for his expertise in the intricate rhythms and cultural significance of Yorùbá percussion. With a deep understanding of traditional drumming techniques, instrument construction, historical context, and contemporary music idioms, Adédòkun is dedicated to sharing the rich heritage of Yorùbá. His workshops and masterclasses have earned him a reputation as a leading educator in the field, influencing both aspiring drummers and seasoned musicians.
Peter Ọlálékan Adédòkun was born in Ibadan, Oyo-State, Nigeria. He began his professional career in 1997. He was the Chief drummer of the Alajotas Dance Company Nigeria for many years before founding LEKAN DRUMS Int’l, a company that specializes in the making, fixing and selling of different African drums, LEKAN DRUMS Int’l also trains, performs,
conduct /facilitate workshops on different African Drums and other musical instruments. He is the founder of ILU YORUBA (YORUBA DRUMS) an online tutorials & training platform for different Yoruba Drums. He also founded DRUMSVOICE OF JESUS, a gospel ministry which uses different African Drums, Songs and dance to praise and worship God at churches and other Christian oriented gatherings and programs.
In 2023, He founded NATIONS RHYTHM FESTIVAL NIGERIA, an International Festival designed to bring people from all around the world to celebrate the universal language of Music with drums workshops on Drums Therapy and Drums Education.
Peter Ọlálékan Adédòkun has worked with several choreographers, directors, composers and musicians with a difference i.e. Ambassador Christopher Emmanuel (Alajotas Dance Company), Prof. Anjola Aboderin, Prof. Dotun Ogundeji (University Of Ibadan), Prof. J. P Clark, Prof. Dapo Adelugba, Dr. Tunde Awosanmi, Jonathan Murray (Former President, Drums Facilitators Association, U.S.A), Dave Holland (U.S.A), Diane Roberts (Arrivals Legacy Project, Canada), James Tyson (former Theatre Programmer, Chapter Arts Centre, UK) to mention but a few.
He has performed, ministered, lectured and conducted several workshops on traditional music, dance, flutes, drumming and drums making both at home and several countries abroad like Republic of Benin, Ghana, Togo, Kenya, South Africa, United Kingdom, U.S.A, Germany, Jordan and Croatia.
