Gómez is a Miami-born composer, Cuban tres player, and music educator with degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Syracuse University. His work blends Cuban, Jazz, Classical, and European Modernist traditions, often fusing Afro-Cuban rhythmic language with experimental compositional approaches — rooted in a diasporic, transnational identity.

A classically trained cellist turned tresero, he founded Tres Contemporáneo, an initiative dedicated to expanding the classical repertoire for the Cuban tres through commissions, performances, and educational resources. His compositions span chamber, vocal, and electronic music, and his chamber piece Sit And Play (published by Dulcamara Press) has received notable performances and praise.

He has earned recognition from the American Prize and the Society of New Music, and in 2025 was named a Copland House CULTIVATE Fellow, where he composed Jest for violin and piano under the mentorship of Derek Bermel. He has also received support from organizations including Imani Winds, Yellow Barn, and the American String Teachers Association.

As an educator, Gómez has taught Cuban musical genres, theory, and composition at Oberlin and the Community Music Center of Boston, emphasizing cultural accessibility and rhythmic fluency for students of all ages. Beyond that, he has been active in arts leadership — serving on the Society of New Music board, directing the Latinx Music Union at Oberlin, and working as a professional music engraver and copyist.

In short, Gómez is a multifaceted artist whose composing, performing, teaching, and community work all center on bridging Cuban heritage with contemporary classical practice.
